About Rhys
Rhys Williamson is a storyteller, theatre-maker, writer, director and producer based in Bristol.
His producing experience spans the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Prague Fringe and Durham Fringe, as well as London and international performances. He has worked across storytelling, comedy, clowning, puppetry, magic, immersive theatre and physical performance. He is particularly interested in what happens when different disciplines collide, and in finding theatrical ways to tell stories that could not be told in quite the same way anywhere else.
For more than a decade, Rhys has worked behind the scenes. He has written, directed and produced 12 shows with magician Chris Cook, developed immersive experiences, produced two short films and provided dramaturgical and production support to a wide range of artists. He is also a Trustee of Puppet Place, the home for puppetry in the South West. Alongside his theatre work, he is an experienced communications professional working across marketing, digital, PR and partnerships.
2026 has been his busiest year yet. Following the success of Fake, which Rhys co-created with performer Chris Cook and premiered in 2025, the show played a sold-out run at Prague Fringe, where it won the Creative Award and Inspiration Award. At the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026, Fake played at Gilded Balloon, selling out fifteen shows during the run. Rhys and Chris also premiered Heist: How to Steal a Masterpiece. Both shows received multiple five-star reviews and were awarded Gold Edinburgh Festival Fringe Theatre Awards. Alongside creating the shows, Rhys produced further festival dates, a London run and rural touring for the shows.
Alongside these productions, Rhys produced comedian Alastair Clark’s Edinburgh Fringe run of On the Record.
He also developed his first solo show, A Very Difficult Person. The autobiographical storytelling show, about a roofing scam Rhys experienced, was developed through Camden People’s Theatre SPRINT Festival and Tobacco Factory Writers’ Lab Presents and retold through the language of a fairytale.
Rhys brings creative and practical experience together. He can help shape a story, develop its theatrical language, make the production work, build an audience and figure out what needs doing when the plan inevitably changes.
That combination is at the heart of Wicked Pig Productions. Rhys likes getting stuck into the detail, solving problems alongside artists and helping ambitious ideas become shows that audiences actually get to see.
